So here we are. Well of course here we are, where else would we be? I have to say that I expected this newsletter to be out at least a month ago. I guess part of the delay (aside from my usual procrastination and distraction with all things shiny), is that I have been waiting on guidance on how Divine Bridges is going to progress. It seemed a year ago it came onto the scene with both guns blazing. It was an exciting ride with lots of movement and information. At times it was a profound communion with the Divine, and it was always a healing experience. Then summer came, and I felt the dragons slumber. I too fell into this place of childlike enjoyment of summer. Come this fall though, I found myself chomping at the bit once again, but I was still waiting for a sign of how to proceed. This came in the past week, and I better understand the immediate future of Divine Bridges. I was told this was a period of inner development to ready myself for the next stage, as well as learning how to work deeper one on one with people, and the various aspects of Divine Bridges. This makes sense, as I have had numerous Divine Bridge events open when I have sat down to work on someone. Most of these have been very intense and profound and have moved tremendous amounts of karmic conditioning. I have also been given insight into the cultural perspective of Divine Bridges, which I will talk about later in this newsletter. So although I miss doing the group events, I am sure they will return in their own timing and be all the stronger for their time of development.
In addition to this work with Divine Bridges, I have undertaken a new project called Mosaic which is a audio course I am producing on matters of spiritual development. I will keep you updated on this new venture.
I should also mention the artwork in this month's Ezine. I try to look for inspiration artwork for each issue. I believe art plays a big role in spiritual development and expression. I came across Brian Exton on the internet and enjoyed his work as a digital artist. Brian agreed to share his work in this issue of Divine Bridges. Take a moment to check out his web site

So there you have it, the Dragons are back from vacation. Once they stop showing off their fading summer tans, I am sure they will get busy with some exciting winter plans. Stay tuned!
Just don't do something, sit there!
The corner stone of ANY spiritual tradition is meditation. It might be dressed up in different forms, but the act of going into the inner silence is integral to spiritual development. Unfortunately in the west, we seem too preoccupied in getting somewhere to sit still and realize we are already there. Although we often use the term meditation to imply that we are thinking about, considering, or visualizing something, the nature of mediation is the complete opposite. In meditation our goal is simply silence; maybe this is why it seems so unattractive in our busy media driven world. There are many forms of meditation, but as zen practitioners would say, it is simply to quiet and tame our monkey mind. Now this doesn't have to be done sitting quietly in the lotus position with fingers held thus and so. Meditation can be very active physically, and walking meditations are one of my own personal favorites. Carving and pottery can also be meditation for me as the activity always me to enter into a single pointedness with regard to my mind. Basically anything that can bring our mind to silence can be use as meditation. There is no goal in meditation beyond that silence. Now I say there is no goal, but that doesn't mean things don't naturally happen as a result of that silence. A good case in point is the channeling that comes through with Divine Bridges as a result of the silence I have entered into from meditation. Meditation is what allows me to have a strong connection to those that guide me in spirit, as well as hear the guidance of my own higher innate wisdom. That result doesn't change the fact that the goal of the meditation is simply the silencing of the thinking mind. Now why is such a simple act that important? Well first off let's look at what mediation does. The physiological effects of meditation have been studied and the results are pretty amazing. First off, repeated meditation actually changes brainwave frequency. Our normal active waking brainwave is Beta (30-13 Hz), while deep relaxation occurs in the Theta and Delta wavelengths. Alpha (13-8 Hz) is where daydreams, guidance, and creativity can be accessed, Theta (8-3.5 Hz)is where we tend to experience spiritual phenomena like visions, and Delta (3.5-.5 Hz) is where our body is able to shutdown to repair itself. There has even been research to show that there is even one level below Delta called Epsilon which is below .5 Hz. Meditation is able to slow the activity of the brain so that we can slip into these states of consciousness. This can be highly beneficial when the body is under stress and is unable to disconnect from the high energy beta state. Research by Dr Jeffrey Thompson (and others) on Buddhist monks and lamas found that experienced meditators were able to achieve a new brain wave they called Gamma (30-85 Hz with an average of 40Hz). Now Gamma has been linked with higher functioning of the brain, increased sense of well being, compassion, and awareness. So without going into this subject deeper, let's just understand that meditation has the ability to change your brainwave patterns for your benefit.
Meditation also works on the more physical parts of the anatomy as well. Our brain is very primitive at its core. Central to that survival of our ancestors was the fight or flight response initiated by the amygdala. This is a response to stress in our environment to protect our well being. Is this stressor something I should run from or confront? Once that decision is made our body reacts by flooding our system with adrenalin, increasing oxygen and blood flow to the muscles, releasing mass stores of glucose, etc. Unfortunately for many people in their life they are still run by this fight or flight response throughout their day. Their amygdala is on such high alert that everything they come across is viewed and assessed from this adversarial position. No wonder we have a society of heart attacks, strokes, adrenal burnout, nervous breakdowns, conflict, domestic violence, gangs, etc. with the only alternative being booze, happy pills, and distraction. Now here comes meditation to the rescue. Meditation is able to reset the amygdala, change brain chemistry, balance the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems of the body, and help the body let go of stress.
You may have noticed in our links section that I have continued to repeat three links in each ezine. Is this out of some sense of loyalty or lucrative kickback scheme to finance my travels? (hmmm, note to self, renegotiate kickback scheme to finance travel options). Two of the links have very good information on meditation and I encourage you to use this resource. Both Ian's (meditation-all-you-need) and Brian's sites (Destination Om) also have very good tools I use as part of my own practice. Note, Ian's site also has more detailed information on brainwaves then I have included here. The third site deals with music which aside from meditation and nature, I feel is one of the greatest positive healing influences we can have in our life.
In future ezines, I am going to go into more depth on meditation types and styles. Ian's meditation-all you-need site is a great starting point if you need some information right away.
Okay so I have convinced you that meditation has a positive effect on your physiology and well being, but what difference does that make in a world you say is going to hell in a hand cart? Everything. The only way the world changes is by the change created within you. You create the change in the world by changing yourself. A study with TM (transcendental meditation) found that when at least one percent of people in a city practiced TM, it had a noticeable positive change in reducing the crime rate of the city. I guess all it takes is a 100 mindful monkeys to change the world.

A Cultural Perspective
Given my background I guess it is not too surprising that I would try to find a cultural basis for Divine Bridges. After all, I have always had a keen interest in spiritual traditions and culture. It is no secret that I am not a big fan of the mainstream new age movement, but instead always spent my time studying in more traditional paths. So it came as a bit of a shock for me when Divine Bridges surfaced. Here was this very free form healing system complete with head shaking, weird sounds, avatars manifesting, and tied together with a nice dragon motif. I admit it triggered resistance in me when I was shown how it would be presented. There was security in following the traditional ceremonies and techniques that had existed for thousands of years. This was new territory, or was it? A few events have helped give me a cultural perspective, and I thought it was worth passing along to you. The first involves a dream/out of body experience I had a couple of years ago. In it, I found myself strapped to a chair and this odd looking guy with a painted face was shocking me with a high voltage charge. I could feel the charge circulate though my body and take me to the edge of my threshold. When he asked me how I was doing I replied "Oh I like it". This response was met with a huge grin on the painted fellows part. "Oh good" he said "we are testing you to see if you are strong enough to be a Yuwipee man." Now when I recovered from this experience I was kind of freaked out. To be honest the last thing I wanted was the responsibility of running a yuwipee. To explain what that is, I offer this brief explanation. It is a sacred ceremony of the Sioux, where the medicine man is tied up. Fingers are laced together, arms and legs are tied, a blanket is tied around him, and he is laid down on an altar. Now when I say tied, I mean tied tightly and thoroughly. The room is pitch dark and the singers start singing. Spirits are called in and the medicine man is untied quickly so he can work with the spirits. Magic happens in that darkness, of which you would have to experience personally to understand or believe. The ceremony can be used for healing or to find information. I always thought that Divine Bridges had the feeling of a Yuwipee, except that I wasn't tied up and it was done in the light instead of the dark. I just found out recently that there is a version of the Yuwipee called a Yuwampee ceremony where the medicine man is not tied up. So that has been one cultural piece of information I have thought about over the past year.
The second major path in my own life is that of Tibetan Buddhism, and it too held a piece of the puzzle. Now the basis of shamanic culture in Tibetan Buddhism is with the Bon culture. My own lineage of Vajrayana Buddhism I follow is from that Bon tradition. This past summer I was watching a Bon oracle shaman conduct a ceremony. It is a pretty amazing sight and the shaman gets possessed by the energy and spirits working through them. There it was, the head shaking, the strange sounds, the conduit of energy and spirit that happens with Divine Bridges. I could relate to what that Bon oracle was experiencing.
What does this all really mean? Not very much to be honest. Divine Bridges is what it is, and any explanations on my part do little to change it. For me it is just interesting to see the commonality of all traditions. Why does my head shake like a bobble doll when I channel? Not sure, maybe it is just spirit's sense of humour. But it is nice to know spirit makes fun of Bon oracles as well as Divine Bridges facilitators all the same. Divine Bridges is still in its infancy stage. Although it has always had a bit of a ceremonial feel to it, maybe this is something that will develop further in the future. Wait and see...

This month's poem is
| Searching for God |
| by Rabindranath Tagore |
| I have been seeking and searching God for as long as I can remember, for many many lives, from the very beginning of existence. Once in a while, I have seen him by the side of a faraway star, and I have rejoiced and danced that the distance, although great, is not impossible to reach. And I have traveled and reached to the star; but by the time I reached the star, God has moved to another star. And it has been going on for centuries. The challenge is so great that I go on hoping against hope... I have to find him, I am so absorbed in the search. The very search is so intriguing, so mysterious, so enchanting, that God has become almost an excuse—the search has become itself the goal. And to my surprise, one day I reached a house in a faraway star with a small sign in front of it, saying, "This is the house of God." My joy knew no bounds—so finally I have arrived! I rushed up the steps, many steps, that led to the door of the house. But as I was coming closer and closer to the door, a fear suddenly appeared in my heart. As I was going to knock, I became paralyzed with a fear that I had never known, never thought of, never dreamt of. The fear was: If this house is certainly the house of God, then what will I do after I have found him?" Now searching for God has become my very life; to have found him will be equivalent to committing suicide. And what am I going to do with him? I had never thought of all these things before. I should have thought before I started the search: what am I going to do with God? I took my shoes in my hands, and silently and very slowly stepped back, afraid that God may hear the noise and may open the door and say, "Where are you going? I am here, come in!" And as I reached the steps, I ran away as I have never run before; and since then I have been again searching for God, looking for him in every direction—and avoiding the house where he really lives. Now I know that house has to be avoided. And I continue the search, enjoy the very journey, the pilgrimage. |

Divine Messages
and so I opened a fortune cookie and it had this to say.
This channeled session was with Aaron, who is one of the ascended masters who works with Divine Bridges.
Intention and clarity are key to your development. That is why we ask you to sit in silence. Meditation allows you to cultivate peace within your being. When you have peace, you can see your path with clarity. Focusing on this path then brings it to fruition. The beliefs you hold in front of you will manifest in your reality. This can work for you or against you, so it is important to have a calm center and clear intent. Even in chaos you can be still, and see with clear eyes. Know what you want to manifest and hold it in your mind's eye. We are moving through a time of rapid manifestation. Both your desires and your fears will surface, and take form much quicker than before. The choice is yours which you focus on, and give form to.

24- Misuse of Power
How Vivekananda lost his key
The only antidote for the misuse of psychic powers is love; otherwise all power corrupts. It may be wealth, it may be prestige, it may be politics, or it may be psychic--it makes no difference. Whenever you feel powerful, if you don't have love as an antidote your power is going to become a calamity to others, a curse; because power blinds the eyes.
Love opens the eyes, love cleanses the eyes... your perception becomes clear. In Ramakrishna's ashram in Dakshineshwar, in Calcutta, there were many disciples, and Vivekananda was one of the most intellectual. There was a very simple man who was also a disciple--his name was Kalu, a poor man. He was so faithful, religious, emotional, that he had in his room hundreds of statues of different gods. Early in the morning he would take a bath in the Ganges, and then the worship of these gods would begin--and of course each had to be worshipped equally; otherwise somebody may feel offended. So Kalu's whole day was lost, and everybody was laughing at him: "What are you doing? Just one god is enough!" Vivekananda was the most prominent in making a fool of Kalu. He said, "You are simply stupid--these are just stones! And you are wasting your life." One day Ramakrishna gave Vivekananda a certain method of awareness to practice: "Go into your cell, close the door and practice it." When Vivekananda came to a certain stage, he felt himself so full of power that the idea came to his mind, "If I say at this moment just within myself, to Kalu, 'Take all your gods and throw them into the Ganges,' he will do it." And he did it, he said--in his own cell, just within himself--"Kalu, just collect all your gods and throw them all into the Ganges." Kalu collected all his gods into a big bag and was dragging the bag down the steps when Ramakrishna ran after him and said, "What are you doing?" Kalu said, "Suddenly I heard a voice--it must have come from God himself, because there was nobody in the room--saying, 'Kalu, collect all your gods and throw them into the Ganges.' It was so powerful that I could not doubt it." Ramakrishna said, "Come. Bring your gods back and I will show you from where the voice has come." He knocked on Vivekananda's door. Vivekananda came out and Ramakrishna was very angry. He said, "Vivekananda, this is the last thing I had ever expected of you. I had told you to be aware--not to destroy a poor man's life. He is so simple-hearted, so loving, such a beautiful man--how could you do it? From now onwards you will never attain to the same power again." And it is said Vivekananda died without attaining enlightenment. Although he became Ramakrishna's successor because he was a great orator, had a certain charisma, influenced people, he himself died a poor man, knowing nothing. And the reason was that he disturbed a simple-hearted man because he got just a little power and he immediately used it--not for the benefit of somebody, but to harm somebody. |

some of the links from our previous DivinEzine that have recent updates
My very good friend Ian has started a new business offering meditation/visualization CDs and Mp3s that are encoded with entrainment frequencies. I have listened to a couple of them already, and have to say they definitely deepen the quality of my meditation. Ian also has some great meditation instruction and advice on his web site. I highly recommend him as a meditation teacher. Update: Ian is launching a line of Ebooks. Included in the tiles are ones on mantras, meditation, and childhood obesity.

Michael Waters is an amazing musical artists living on Vancouver Island. His music has evolved to be a spiritual practice. His site has some free MP3s to download of his music. Check out this guitar mystic at:
I can personally attest to how nice these custom mala beads are to use in meditation. I use mine daily. Brian has some good instructional videos on this site on how to use a mala in meditation.

Did you know?
That in Iceland the rights of faery folk are protected. A major highway project was even delayed as they figured out how to deal with a rock that was on the highway's path; the rock was owned by dwarves. There is even a Icelandic Elf School, and 54% of the population is said to believe in faery folk (and 90% "take notice" of them). I wonder what percentage of elves believe in humans?
hmmm, are dragons a protected species there?
